Nihternnes - Brythonic (2009) |
Nihternnes - Brythonic (2009) |
Pre-Album demo
Nihternnes - 'Brythonic'
A mostly instrumental precursor to the upcoming Nihternnes second full-length 'Subterfuge'
So if you people enjoyed 'The Dawning Of A New Era' from what seems like waaaaaaaaaaay back in 2007, be patient - this is not entirely like that.
If you people enjoyed 'The Mouthless Dead' EP I did last year, well fuck, doesn't really sound like that either.
What this demo DOES have is instrumental versions of three new original tracks, that will be on the new album (release date as yet unknown), as well as two cover tracks (with vocals).
Influences range between Ikuinen Kaamos, Swallow The Sun, Drudkh and similar bands. The sort of slow-to-mid paced post-black metal that you hear from intelligent (read: not 'kvlt' BM musicians such as Totalselfhatred, Waning, Mirrorthrone, Kadenzza, <code> and so forth. If you like anything those guys have done, perchance you will find something enjoyable here.
This is the first official Nihternnes release without a guest musician. Horizons have been widened - acoustic guitars and keys spread further into the mix than before, whilst still retaining the pace of the debut album.
You can add into the sound a spattering of folk music. Not in a 'Viking-y' Moonsorrow way, or a 'la-la-la' Finntroll way, but a refined British traditional acoustic folk sound; similar to which you would expect to hear from a group of 50 year old Cornishmen.
It's of course, very progressive-minded (as always) but not as extravagant or experimental as before - I suppose you could say the Nihternnes sound has matured, like a fine wine, or indeed, a dead horse.
Make of this what you will, folks. It's not a complete picture, but a more accurate portrayal of the way Nihternnes' sound is going. I think it's pretty clever - whether it works or not, is a choice I leave to you.
01 - Endless (Grey) (Demo Version)
02 - Vergissmeinnicht (Demo Version)
03 - Transmission (Demo Version)
04 - Verdelet (Akercocke Cover)
05 - Ride On (Jimmy McCarthy Cover)
Again, purely a RB release, probably won't go out of my way to fund anything printed. Kiss my arse (or send monies!) if you disagree.
Forgive the metronome and poor bitrate on track 3. I know, I suck. But I forgot to edit, and have since lost the sourcewavs.
Expect the new release in a few months. It's going to be massive.
Peace (or whatever alternative you apathetic / genocidal fucks prefer.)
- Ordeith.
PS: Oh. And if you've not heard Jimmy McCarthy before, you're so uncultured, and should check his Art out forthwith.
PPS: And no, the Akercocke cover is NOT on the new CD, it is purely a shit 4 minute filler for this crappy demo. You can probably skip through it.
All this was done at some point throughout 2009. It was a goddamn stupid blurry year - filled with ambiguous revelry, meaningless sex and substance abuse, unprovoked blasphemy and misanthropic pyromania (causing me to be away from the internet for 6 months) and I cannot remember most of it - thank FUCK. But my composition notes inform me that I was quite productive, so we shall see.
