Bring Me the Horizon (often abbreviated to BMTH) is a deathcore[2] band from Sheffield, Yorkshire. The band formed in the year 2004 from members of other bands within their local area.[4] They have incorporated elements of death metal and metalcore in their music, resulting in their genre best being described as deathcore.[5]
They are currently signed to Visible Noise Records, but were originally signed to Thirty Days of Night Records. They were the first band to be signed to that label. They have toured in the past with bands such as Lostprophets (headline), The Blackout[6]; Killswitch Engage (headline) and The Haunted[7]. They did a headlining tour of the UK during March and April 2007 with the now defunct metalcore band I Killed the Prom Queen.
They played Download Festival 2007 in June also with Iron Maiden, Slayer and others.[8] Bring Me the Horizon also played at download festival in 2008 including having a guest apperance Travis from Gym Class Heroes on August 6th in Calgary. He joined Oli in chanting the start of their new song Diamonds Arent Forever. In November 2007 they toured on the Australian leg of Gigantour, playing three dates. They returned to Australia in May/June 2008, appearing on I Killed The Prom Queen's final tour. They also appeared on the Warped Tour in the US.
Bring Me the Horizon had been writing and recording a second studio album over the beginning of 2008. They had been in Sweden recording the album throughout April and May with Fredrik Nordstrom, who has worked with bands such as At The Gates, Arch Enemy, I Killed The Prom Queen, and Dimmu Borgir. It is scheduled to be released on September 29, 2008. The album is supposedly completely different from Count Your Blessings, having a more Metalcore vibe to it, similar to This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For.
They opened the main stage on the Sunday of the 2008 Reading Festival, in place of Slipknot, it was noted on the bands myspace that it was the biggest gig they have played yet. They received an unwelcomed reception, being heavily bottled, they did however remain on stage for their entire set.During October this year they will be embarking on a European headline tour with The Red Shore, Deez Nuts and Ignominious Incarceration followed by a US headline tour with Misery Signals, The Ghost Inside and Johnny Truant. In September, 2008 Bring Me The Horizon signed a deal with Epitaph for the North American release of their latest full length album Suicide Season. The album with be released through the label in the USA on the 18th November 2008. |

Suicide Season is the second full-length studio album by English band Bring Me the Horizon, released on September 29, 2008 through Visible Noise in the United Kingdom. The band signed with Epitaph Records on 11 September 2008, with the label releasing the album on 18 November 2008 in the United States.[1] Suicide Season is the follow-up to the band's debut album, Count Your Blessings.
The album was recorded in Arboga, an isolated Swedish village. Sykes described Arboga as "Nowheresville."[2] Sykes considered the isolation Arboga provided as ideal in comparison to the constant activity in Birmingham, the recording location of their first album: "We recorded Count Your Blessings in the middle of Birmingham and it was very easy to get distracted. Arboga is a village with nothing in it apart from a tiny shop and that was it. We actually lived at the studio so it meant we could all just focus on the music. Fredrik was a cool guy, and he taught us how to do stuff, so at night after he'd gone home we'd still be recording the album."[3]
In a more recent issue of Metal Hammer, Bring Me the Horizon's performance of "It Was Written In Blood" was released from the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards ceremony. The track was mis-labled as being from This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For and was also mis-labled as the song "Sleep With One Eye Open".
The album features guest appearances from vocalist JJ Peters of Deez Nuts, Sam Carter of Architects and Luis Dubuc of The Secret Handshake.[3]
The track "No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Back of Toilet Doors", is Oli's way of relieving the stress of the charges pressed against him at the Nottingham Rock City on April 8, 2007. Oli states that "...it's only 30 seconds long and was a great way just to relieve my stress over everything that happened. I really got my anger out on it!"[3]
On Sunday, August 10, 2008, the songs "It Was Written In Blood" and "The Comedown" were leaked on YouTube by an unknown fan without an actual video. The first promo video from Suicide Season was released on Tuesday August 12, 2008 on the Visible Noise Myspace, entitled 'The Comedown'. On August 15, "Chelsea Smile" was released on the band's MySpace page. All three tracks are currently circulating various file sharing sites.
On September 28, Suicide Season was made available to download from the New Zealand iTunes store. |

Bring Me The Horizon was once a band that the metal community scoffed and laughed at. They were too scene and they were trying to hard. The band decided to change all that, whether for the right or wrong reasons. Oli admits that the change in musical direction was partially due to the band thinking that the deathcore scene was dying. Suicide Season is, indeed, a great departure from their previous effort Count Your Blessings. The music isn't completely devoid of deathcore, so old fans can rest assured they will get a taste of the old Bring Me The Horizon.
The album kicks off with single "The Comedown." This song is full of energy and is a good opener for the album. It serves as a segue from the old into the new. That being said, it's still one of the weaker songs on the album. Suicide Season shows Bring Me The Horizon expanding on their sound and accepting those possible emo and hardcore influences. "It Was Written In Blood" almost seems like it could go down in the books as a classic emo song. One thing that I found very refreshing on this album was the lack of typical deathcore vocals. Oli still gives a nice roar or growl occassionally, but the majority of the vocals on this album are a more expressive and emotional scream. There have been complaints about this vocal style shift, but it compliments the music perfectly and really comes off as more genuine that before.
The flow of this album is also amazing. The tracks seemed to be perfectly arranged for maximum enjoyment. The beginning of the album starts off strong with a bit of a new sound that leads into a different side of Bring Me The Horizon in "It Was Written In Blood". As that track trails off the album takes on a brutal almost death metal assault. "Death Breath" through "Diamonds Aren't Forever" is a touch of death metal with a little bit of -core flavoring. Soon after this assault ends, pianos begin. "No Need For Introductions..." is reminiscent of Slipknot's Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat in the way that it shifts so suddenly from light jazzy piano to death metal. And really, probably one of the greatest moments of the album is when Oli screams "After all the **** you put me through, I should have pissed on you." at the songs climax. The closing track "Suicide Season" is nothing short of amazing and probably shows the most growth for the band. It's an almost experimental track that recalls The Ocean's Precambrian in it's introduction and other peak moments. The album does drop in intensity and drag on in small bits, but overall it is fantastic. All in all this is an album to write home about. All the deathcore and Bring Me The Horizon haters should at least give them one last shot with this album.
